How do I know what size chandelier I need?

Add the length and with of the room you want to place a ceiling fixture; this will give you a good reference for the diameter of chandelier that will suit your living space.  For example, a living room may measure 15X15, 15+15=30, 30 inches would be a good starting diameter of chandelier for that particular room. 

How high should I hang a ceiling fixture?

There are a few factors that go into deciding the height of a ceiling fixture:

If it’s going over a table it should typically hang 30-34 inches above the table, however, if your ceiling are much higher than 8ft you can add 3 inches for every foot over 8ft. 

If your ceiling fixture is being hung anywhere else, the bottom of your fixture should be around 7ft off the floor. 

What wattage of bulbs should I use on my ceiling fixture?

We recommend a maximum of 40 watts, however, if you fixture has shades we recommend 25watts for safety and in order to maintain the integrity of your shades. 

Do you sell chain?

We do sell chain and it will soon be offered on our website in the chandelier section.

Can I choose different chain for a chandelier?

You can upgrade the style of chain.  An upgrade charge may be applicable. 

How do you know how much chain to send me for my chandelier?

When chandeliers are sold we contact the customer to determine how much chain to send.

What is a canopy? 

A canopy is the piece at the top of ceiling fixture that attaches to the ceiling in order to hang and also cover the wires. 

Can I choose a different canopy?

We offer three different styles of canopies which will be added to the website soon.  An upgrade charge may be applicable.  

What is the best way to clean my chandelier?

First and foremost, don’t ever spin your chandelier, work around it.  Spinning a chandelier can cause it to come loose from the ceiling.  Most chandeliers can be dusted with canned air and then wiped off with a damp cloth.  For crystal chandeliers, we recommend a product called Clean and Bright which will be offered on the website soon. 

I have a chandelier that needs some work and also rewired, do you offer that service?

Yes, many of the chandeliers in our showroom and online are imported from France.  We then refurbish and rewire them to meet U.S. standards. 

Do you make custom chandeliers?

Yes, we have a variety of Lamps and Lighting by Design chandeliers that we can customize to meet your particular needs. 

Can you paint a chandelier?

Yes.  We have a very talented staff of artist that can give your chandelier the finish you are looking for.  Contact us for details.

How much does a chandelier repair cost?

It depends on the amount of labor and parts that go into the repair. 

Lamps

What do you mean by Euro-wiring?

Lamps are Euro-wired when there is no access to go through the bottom of the light fixture.  Instead, a special socket with a whole in the back is used to compensate the wire, which now comes from the top of the lamp rather than the bottom.

Why don’t you offer shades with your lamps?

A shade is a very important component of a lamp and many factors can go into choosing the right shade: ceiling height, the size of furniture the lamp will be placed, the size of the lamp, color of the interior space…the list goes on.  We are working on a system to offer a variety of shades with a lamp.  Perhaps in the next year this will take place.  In the meantime, we suggest you take your lamp to a local lamps store for shade fitting.

Can I request you choose a shade for the lamp I purchase?

Yes, we can fit multiple shades for a lamp that you like and email you photos and prices.  Contact us for this service.

Do you repair lamps?

Yes, we repair all lighting products. 

I have something that I want made into a lamp, can you do it?

Yes, we can make almost anything into a lamp, sconce, or chandelier. 

How much does a lamp repair cost?

It depends on the amount of labor and parts that go into the repair.  Feel free to contact us for an estimate. 

I don’t like the base on my lamp, can I replace it?

Yes, we have a selection of different bases to choose from for your particular lamp or we can make you one. 

Sconce

How high should I hang a wall sconce?

Usually the bottom of your wall sconce should be 60 inches off the floor in order to avoid direct eye contact with the light sources. 

How much space should there be between sconces in a hallway?

Between 8 and 10 feet.

What wattage of bulb should I use on my sconce?

Like chandeliers, we recommend a maximum of 40 watts, however, if the sconce have shades, we recommend 25-watt bulbs.
